This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (2/5/15)

Some of the platforming action you can expect from 'Sayonara Umihara Kawase'
Good day good friends, welcome to another week of Playstation Network updates for those who love Japanese RPGs and video games in general!

This week includes the release of the fun old-school platform Sayonara UmiharaKawase+ for PS Vita, a PS4 port and Damascus Gear: Operation Tokyo, which appears to be a deep cut as I only stumbled upon by chance when looking at it's corresponding DLC.

Regular readers may notice the lack of a deals section. This is because between writing the first half of this post and finishing it, the PSN has become unavailable for me yet again (and possibly others of course...gyah ><). I will update this post when the PSN is live again, so keep an eye out here on the site or @JRPGJungle on Twitter for updates to this post and the other content on this blog. Thanks for reading and happy gaming! This post has been updated to include deals now! The arcade event from last week is still running, as well as the great Child of Light being on sale as well. Happy gaming!

Pick of the week (so far): Sayonara UmiharaKawase + looks interesting and visually reminds me of one of my childhood favourites Tomba. What's yours and will you be picking up anything from the PSN this week?

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 To Be Released In The West + Project Diva 2nd To Feature Lyric Translations

Making it's way to Western 3DS systems for the first time will be Hatsune Miku in Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Remix. The game has been announced for a 2015 release in North America and Europe. For those wondering, Project Mirai Remix will be an enhanced version of the original game from Japan, Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2.

There are some features that are unique to this 3DS game for those who played the Project Diva games on Playstation (if not, I did a quick review that I wish I could rewrite about the demo on PS Vita and will review the whole PS3 game eventually). As you can see in the song trailer below, this includes the ability to have vocaloids sing songs that aren't their own original songs. If you played Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, you'll know that you could switch the visual characters but not the voices, so this feature is an improvement (the feature in Project Diva F didn't make a lot of sense to me). Those who love customising characters will be pleased to know you can customise outfits, the character's rooms and buttons in the game. This ties in with network features where you can show off your character on a character card to other players, along with the option to make your own custom dance routines and more using StreetPass.

Along with this announcement, Sega has also announced that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd will finally include English lyric translations. The president and COO of Sega in America was quoted saying:
"We worked closely with our partners in Japan and the artists to ensure that the lyrical intent of the original Japanese is maintained so our non-Japanese speaking fans can better understand the meaning and context of the amazing world of Hatsune Miku."
You can watch the trailer and see a preview of some of the songs from Project Diva F 2nd with their English lyric translations below.

E3 2014 - Sega: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd Trailer

Sega has released first English trailer of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd for PS3 and PS Vita. The video features one of the new songs we can expect in the game and also shows off some of the new gameplay elements, specifically involving the 'star' buttons we saw in the last game. Interesting.

If you haven't played the original Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F game (you can read our review on the PS Vita Demo here.), the game is a fun rhythm game features multiple characters from the popular Vocaloid synthesiser, including Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len. The game also let's you win costumes and accessories and has 4 difficulty settings, ranging from Very Easy to Extreme.

Cute, funny and kinda creepy all at once: Kiss Hatsune Miku with the Oculus Rift!

It's strange, weird and kind of amazing. Using the Oculus Rift, some sort of motorized arm and augmented reality, someone managed to create a system that lets you virtually kiss Hatsune Miku.

I don't know how satisfying this would be, but the way she blushes is pretty cute. It's definitely amusing to watch!

Review: DEMO Hatsune Miku - Project Diva f (PS Vita)

Months ago, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f was released on PS3. Due to it's good feedback from players, us Westerners can now get the PS Vita port! Yay!

I played the PS3 game and loved it. I made it my goal at the time to get 'Perfect' on every song and difficulty, which is usually how I like to play a fun game that doesn't require my memory to remember a story and to come back regularly. I perfected easy and got about two thirds through normal and was pretty proud and hopeful to find a trophy when I was done.

The game is a basic rhythm game with adorable anime Vocaloid characters as your singing friends. If you don't know what Vocaloid is, Youtube 'Hatsune Miku', pick a live video and you'll see she's not a 'real' singer, but she is very popular. Her voice is made of a Vocal synthesiser - a singer goes into a studio and records little bits and pieces of words and sounds and they turn this into this computer vocal synthesiser and program that can be used to create entire songs worth of vocal melody without hiring a singer. Hatsune Miku's character and voice are very well known in Japan and gaining exposure around the world. She's very cute and also has a bunch of cute vocaloid friends.

But before every male reading this post runs a mile away, what will be the selling point for this game is whether you like the songs or not. This demo gives a good indication, with three songs from the game. Once you've played through these songs, you will know if this game interests you or not. The game play is simple - you press the corresponding button as it falls onto the button on the screen (terrible description...just look at the photo) and as an added bonus for Vita players, when the stars fall onto the stars on the screen, you use the front touchscreen or back touchpad (demo is front touchscreen only) to swipe these away. Make sure you touchscreen is clean, it helps (note to self: don't play your Vita after eating.).

The game looks and plays PERFECT on Vita. The bright colours really pop on the O-LED screen. I actually prefer it on Vita to my TV. Also, it is so perfect for commuting as you can play it in small bursts. The songs range from super bubblegum J-Pop to Soft Rock to Alternative so if you like rock or pop, this game could be worth your while.

One thing to note in the demo is your progress doesn't save in the demo so don't get too hung up on Perfect-ing every song. Also, the demo includes four 'modules' (costumes) for the characters, so you can dress them up appropriately for their songs.

This demo is great, I would give it a 10 if I was to rate it. But of course, it is only a demo, so if you like it as much as I did, hopefully the game will drop in the next week or so. Hopefully some more money will fall out of the sky for me too as it is not cross-buy as far as I can tell (which makes no sense, but whatever).

Let me know if you play it and your thoughts on the demo!
