This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (4/9/15)

Lost Dimension

Why hello! Welcome to this week's edition of Europe and Australia's new PSN releases, which pulls each week's PSN additions related to the JRPG genre and other Japanese games into one post for your convenience.

New releases! Three of them! After a pretty quiet last week on PSN, Lost Dimension, Onechanbara Z2 and One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 grace the store with quirky Japanese game goodness. I've had my eye on Onechanbara since Kotaku posted about some of it's funny English lines and it just seems like an action packed, completely inappropriate game that I want to play when I need a good laugh. Another game I'm interested in is Lost Dimension, a new Atlus RPG that combines elements from popular, recent Japanese games into it's own tactical experience and I love a good whodunit, so I'm hoping it's enjoyable. All of these games also boast a bunch of DLC and to top off a good week, Crunchyroll has made it's way to the PSN internationally. Good week is good.

Enjoy the games and happy gaming!

Apps

For JRPG fans who also are fans of anime, Crunchyroll is now available on the PSN App store internationally (finally!) on PS4, PS3 and PS Vita for free. Using the free membership from Crunchyroll, you can watch a huge selection of anime directly on your Playstation device (which will be especially awesome on Vita I bet).

For fans of HD streaming, simulcasts and ad-free viewing, you can go to Crunchyroll's website and purchase a monthly subscription that will give you all those things and more. My boyfriend and I used the subscription back in Australia (at the time with Chromecast) and I loved being able to watch titles like Persona 4 Golden the Animation and Sailor Moon Crystal right as they came out fully translated. Couldn't have watched or reviewed the first few episodes of the P4G Animation without it, so I highly recommend it.

Pick of the week: I'm going with Onechanbara Z2 Chaos because it looks ridiculous and Lost Dimension for being a whodunit with some of my new favourite game elements like class trials.

What's your pick of the week? Will you be picking up anything from the PSN this week?

This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (8/8/15)

Why hello! Welcome to this week's edition of Europe and Australia's new PSN releases, which pulls each week's PSN additions related to the JRPG genre and other Japanese games into one post for your convenience.

I was pleasantly surprised to open up this week's new releases for the PSN and to see the Sword Art Online PS Vita game now released for PS4. Hollow Fragment has been talked about a bit by JRPG fans online (no doubt for it's anime popularity and being a pretty cool concept for a game) and I haven't played it yet, so I'm so very keen to play it on PS4. The PS4 still needs way more JRPGs, but I'm so happy to see this hitting the consoles and I hope there are more to come.

Also featured on the PSN this week are a few deals that appear to be the same as last week, so if you missed out them, this is the best time to pick up those games.

Enjoy, stay safe, have a good week and happy gaming!

New Releases

• Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment (PS4)

Deals

• Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (PS3, PS Vita)

Pick of the week: Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment. If you haven't played it on Vita, this is the time. Gotta love some JRPG PS4 action!

This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (1/8/15)

Why hello! Welcome to this week's edition of Europe and Australia's new PSN releases, which pulls each week's PSN additions related to the JRPG genre and other Japanese games into one post for your convenience.

This week's new Japanese game release is Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist. In case you were thinking 'But this isn't a JRPG!', I thought that the game would may be relevant due to the card game mini games featured in JRPGs....also cause I really liked the Yu-Gi-Oh PS One game what I was younger.
However, there are a few other JRPG things to talk about, mainly from the Winter Sale. The Winter Sales includes a few action based Japanese games, such as Hyperdimension Neptunia Action U, Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and also a few new story based games such as Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy and Hatoful Boyfriend. I considered buying Guilty Gear or Operation Abyss, but I couldn't justify it until I've finished Final Fantasy IX. I have played the Jojo's Bizzare Adventure: All-Star Battle fighting game a little though - the combat is enjoyable, though maybe not as smooth as an Arc System Works fighter. I would still recommend it for anyone who enjoy's the show though - the animations and gameplay are fun enough.

I hope everyone is having a good week. Happy gaming!

This week we see two releases hitting the PSN in their localised forms. This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (26/6/15)

Why hello! Welcome to this week's edition of Europe and Australia's new PSN releases, which pulls each week's PSN additions related to the JRPG genre and other Japanese games into one post for your convenience.

With last week's E3 silence on the PSN, the store has hit back with some solid new releases and an amazing 'Big In Japan' sale. I seriously don't think I've typed up this many game titles anymore. In new release land, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward is promising to add another big chunk of story, new classes and gameplay access to the already huge world of Final Fantasy XIV, making it an ideal time to try XIV if you haven't already. On top of this is the incredible Big In Japan sale, including some truly great games such as Persona 4 Golden, Danganronpa, most of the Final Fantasy series and a good chunk of the Tales series, along with plenty more. There's honestly just too many games to mention.

Have a good week and as always, happy gaming!

This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (5/6/15)

Why hello! Welcome to this week's edition of Europe and Australia's new PSN releases, which pulls each week's PSN additions related to the JRPG genre and other Japanese games into one post for your convenience.

So I must have been living under a rock or something over the last few weeks (or starting a new job), because I somehow completely missed that Steins;Gate was coming to PS3. Steins;Gate is one of my favourite anime ever because of it's deep story about time travel and it's effects on others and the game is meant to delve much deeper into this tale. If you haven't experienced the story, this is supposed to be the best way to do it.

Joining Steins;Gate are Operation Abyss and Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-. I'm definitely excited for Guilty Gear's 2.5D graphics and because I always love an Arc System Works fighting game. Operation Abyss could also be interesting, with it incorporating lots of ideas from other games hopefully in new ways. With these three new releases, I'm pretty happy with this week's selections for JRPG fans and would call this a good week!

To all of you, have a good week and happy gaming!

Omega Quintet: The Idol crossover that the JRPG genre was missing?

Why hello! Welcome to this week's edition of Europe and Australia's new PSN releases for JRPG fans. If you're anything like me and have secretly been waiting for the world of music, idols and JRPGs to collide, this week you are in luck because Omega Quintet has finally been released in English for PS4, along with plenty of free DLC and more (I will eventually play my Japanese copy and talk about this game by the way. I just need a TV with an HDMI input :| ). While there are no other new JRPGs this week, Catherine and Child of Light are two critically acclaimed games that are on sale, so if you've been wanting to play either this week may be good!

It is also worth noting that if you have a Playstation Plus subscription, there are some new non-JRPG games for you available for this month, so make sure you pick those up before the end of the month.

Enjoy the week and happy gaming!

This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (27/3/15)

Hello, hello!

This week's PSN update includes two new releases, including a JRPG dungeon-crawler I've been excited for - the sequel to the Guided Fate Paradox, the Awakened Fate Ultimatum (although...still need to finish the first one). Along with that, there's a some good games on sale right now as Easter is coming up and the PSN does amazing seasonal sales.

My main recommendation for the Easter sale would be Freedom Wars for it's addictive and complex action game mechanics, but there are definitely other good games in there too so check it out, especially if you're a fan of anime games.

Have a good week and enjoy the update!

This Week's PSN EU/AU PSN Releases, JRPG Style! (19/3/15)

Tokyo Ghost Hunters

Hello, hello!

I'm aware it's been over six months since I've done one of these posts, but I really wanted to bring this back as a) it's a really good excuse to lurk the PSN and b) I'm aware a few people on Twitter used to enjoy this series, so why not, right?

Truthfully, I was checking if Danganronpa 2 was still on sale (spoilers: it's not) and it seemed like a more productive use of my time. So without further ado, here's everything new on the PSN this week!

Dragon Ball Xenoverse - GT PACK 1 (PS4, PS3)

Sorcery Saga - Curse of the Great Curry God (PS Vita)

This game's coming to my own country this week, so I had to give it a mention! Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God (which you may have seen on PSN for quite some time) tells the story of a suspended Magic Academy student who takes an interest in an old curry recipe book. This results in a quirky dungeon crawler RPG game to find the rarest of rare ingredients to make the finest curries!

28th July 2014

Hometown Story (Nintendo 3DS)

The story focuses on Kiyoto Kaidou, a boy serving under President Shouko (the original game's main character) who can read minds. On top of mind reading, the game is set to include "Mechs, beautiful women, maybe some space aliens" (Quote found here). Neat!

This Week's New Releases in Localised and Importable Japanese Games (21/7/14)

Each week, a lot of new games come out. At the start of the week, I read through all of the new releases I can find and find the weekly new Japanese games, then I post them here for your convenience! This list includes descriptions and links to both English localised games plus the new release games you can import.

Localisation

Yet again, I have no new localisations to report! :( I know there's some stuff coming next week though, so look forward to that!

Corpse Party: Blood Drive (PS Vita)

Corpse Party: Blood Drive on PS Vita is the sequel to Corpse Party: Book of Shadows. The game is set two months after Book of Shadows. Not long after being discharged from hospital, Ayumi meets a strange man who tells her that if she gets the Book of Shadows, she has a chance of reviving her friends who died in the Heavenly Elementary School.

Re: Vice [D] (PS Vita)

I hadn't heard of Re:Vice[D] until writing this post and I'm now intrigued by the art style and the story concept! The story covers four Heavenly Kings from the Netherworld who are looking to find the next Demon Lord. Without knowledge of the human world and with only a book to follow, the Heavenly Kings struggle trying to find the next Demon Lord until one day each of the Heavenly Kings find a different candidate who appear to be suitable for the job. In order to determine which of the four candidates is truly suitable, the Heavenly Kings strive to investigate the candidates against the required Demon Lord qualities described in their book.

Thank you to Otome Revolution for translating the game description!

Pre-Order: Play-Asia

Soushuu Senshinkan Gakuen Hachimyoujin Ten no Toki (PS Vita)

Not a lot of English information about this one, although I can tell you it is a visual novel. The game before this one (Soushuu Senshinkan Gakuen Hachimyoujin) according to vndb revolved around a boy and girl with lucid dreams who become stuck inside a dream that actually affects history and has the ability to kill people in real life.

Pre-order/Buy it: Play-Asia

Tokyo Shinseiroku: Operation Abyss (PS Vita)

Yet again, not a lot of English information on this one, although apparently the gameplay is similar to Demon Gaze.

Pre-order/Buy it: Play-Asia

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late (Playstation 3)

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late is an anticipated fighting game by Arc System Works and French Bread that originated as an arcade game. The game sports the kind of 2D anime fighting characters you know and love from Arc System Works and also boasts many unique characters with different moves and weapons. The PS3 version will also include a new character called Nanase who is described as a high school warrior!

Pre-order/Buy it: Play-Asia

This Week's New Releases in Localised and Importable Japanese Games (14/7/14)

Each week, a lot of new games come out. At the start of the week, I read through all of the video game new release lists I can find and look for the weekly new Japanese games. Then I post them for your convenience! This list includes descriptions and links to both English localised games plus the new release games you can import.

Here are this week's finds!

Localisation

Sadly, I couldn't find any new localisations for this week :'( If you happen to find any, please comment below and I'll add them in.

Import

For people who know Japanese, are learning the language or don't mind playing a game in a foreign language, here are Japan's new release games for this week.

July 17th 2014

Shallie no Atelier: Koukon No Umi No Renkinjitsu (PS3)

In the 16th installment of the Atelier series, you can choose to play as Shallistera or Shallotte in Shallie no Atelier. The game is also the third installment in Atelier's 'Dusk' storyline, placed after both Atelier Ayesha and Atelier Esha & Logy. Promising larger fields and a wider variety of mixing items, Shallie no Atelier offers two different story lines that intertwine and offers different ways to play based on how you want to play the game.

Pre-order/Buy it (Standard Edition): Play-Asia

Hoppe Chan Minna de Odekake! Wakuwaku Hoppeland! (3DS)

I'll be straight up here - I couldn't find any reliable English information on this one! All I found was it's listed as an 'Action' game on some sites. My recommendation from watching the above trailer - if I had a Japan region 3DS, I would buy this for it's cuteness and it's younger-level Japanese to help my language learning.

Pre-order/Buy it: Play-Asia

Hamatora: Look at Smoking World (3DS)

With the same universe and characters from the Hamatoma series, Hamatoma: Look at Smoking World will have you solving the mystery of a group of people who hold magic powers called "Minimum" in the town of Kobe. You will solve mysteries as a fellow "Minimum Holder" and with Minimum, you will unravel the mystery.

Pre-order/Buy it: Play-Asia

Sora Yume (PS Vita)

This one was also hard to write about as I only found two sources to go off: one in English on a wordpress site (that also featured some NSFW content, hence why I haven't linked it) and on the official Japanese site for the game. The game's heroine finds a ring in her attic and tries it on. What she probably didn't expect is for a devil who has been stabbed by a sword to appear. Sora Yume is listed as an 'Adventure' game on Play-Asia.

Pre-order: Play-Asia

Sayaka Buccaneer (PS Vita)

Previously a drama CD franchise, Petit Rave are taking their franchise to the PS Vita in Visual Novel form. Set in the Age of Discovery, the Buccaneers arrive with a mission to go beyond the impressive achievements of Drake, the Pirate of the Dawn. To do this, the Buccaneers go their own adventures.

Pre-order/Buy it (Standard Edition): Play-Asia

Pre-order/Buy it (Limited Edition that includes Original Drama and more on CD): Play-Asia

Ore no Shikabane o Koete Yuke 2 (PS Vita)

Also known as Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines or Over My Dead Body 2, Ore no Shikabane o Koete Yuke 2 comes a long way from it's 1999 predecessor. The game is set 100 years after the original and presents a new story. Upgrades to the game include 3D graphics and utilisation of the PS Vita's camera, but the game will still keep the basic gameplay mechanisms from the original game such as the common RPG random encounters while introducing new mechanisms as well.

Pre-order/Buy it (Standard Edition): Play-Asia
Pre-order/Buy it (Limited Edition): Play-Asia

July 19th 2014

Mobile Suit Gundam: Try Age SP (3DS)

Based on the Japanese arcade game, Mobile Suit Gundam: Try Age SP is a card-battling strategy game that can be played by a single player or with local multiplayer. The game will include Gundam series such as Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Build Fighters, Gundam UC, Z Gundam and more.

Pre-Order/Buy it: Play-Asia
